Karen worked with her sponsors, Xcel Energy and Bobcat for inspiration of images on her bison. One side features the past and present of energy; the other features manufacturing, thus the image of fire.

My art experience began in 1967, when I took art as a slough class in seventh grade. My Teacher St. Gertrude inspired and encouraged me to continue. I went on to pursue a commercial art degree and worked as an artist/designer for 19 years. In 1994 I decided to devote full time to fine art specializing in large wall and ceiling murals, painting in oil, watercolor and acrylic as well as painting on furniture. I work in a variety of mediums, with subjects and styles ranging from photographic to abstract. My art can be viewed in many public and private locations or in my working studio.
 
I was approached by two sponsors, Bobcat & Xcel Energy, to create a design for the Herd About the Prairie project that would express their pride in North Dakota as a global fore in manufacturing and energy production. From the past to present day technology, North Dakota continues its quest to become a world leader. This bison will be located at the NDSU Research and Technology Park Incubator to give entrepreneurs a sense of past accomplishments and inspire creativity and vision for the future.

Herd About The Prairie: A Virtual Art Stampede is sponsored by the Lake Agassiz Arts Council and showcases the work of local and regional artists with support from businesses and individuals in the central Red River Valley.
