Sam

Sam

•••••

Eddy’s bison may look like a “Christmas Bison with bright colorful ornaments and snow falling against a brilliant blue backdrop, but it actually represents the Mexican Holiday, “Dia de los Muertos” – Day of the Dead. Eddy, who works in the theatre department at Concordia College in Moorhead, painted this bison in the theatre’s basement. The students affectionately have named him “Sam.”

I grew up in a small coal mining town in Southern Ohio. After graduating from The Ohio University College of Fine Arts, I moved on to the University of Hawai'i, at Manoa for post graduate studies. I identify as a Content Provider, rather than Artist because I have so many ways of expressing the things I need to express. For the past 19 years, I've made Fargo my home.

Sam I'm sure will always be thought of as "The Christmas Bison," because of his brightly painted Christmas lights and the falling snow against his sky. To me, SAM is part of Dia de los Muertos; and it's a festive occasion not a morbid one. The snow is really stars against night
sky brimming with contentment. This is the style I've been painting in for several years now, it's a style I stumbled into while living in Fargo.
