••••• Tam's bison has North Dakota prairieland scenes painted on both sides, and the 23rd Psalm is hidden throughout the work.••••• Finding beauty everywhere she looks has been Tam’s discovery since she started painting 20 years ago. Tam is a partner in Backstage Gallery & Gift Shoppe in Rugby, ND, where she does all the framing for the gallery in her 100 year old home on her farm northwest of Towner. She enjoys the outdoors and her favorite pastime is to ride horseback with her grandchildren. Oil is the choice of medium but she also paints in water color. Her subject matter comes from her surroundings. She particularly enjoys painting landscapes and old buildings found on nearby farmsteads or an armful of wildflowers picked from the pasture. The love of North Dakota shines through her paintings, she believes there is beauty everywhere we look, we just have to ‘see’ it. Traveling throughout the Midwest, the West Coast and internationally with her artwork has won Tam numerous awards. When the news came out that the Lake Agassiz Arts Council was having artists paint bison I knew that I wanted in on this great project. I had painted one of the horses for the Catch a Painted Pony, Easter Seals promotion in Minot in 2004, and I now had a horse for the 2006 Easter Seals promotion in Bismarck. So what that meant was that I had a life size horse and a life size buffalo in 100 year old home at the same time. Coming home late at night and seeing two enormous figures in the window can make your hair stand up, but nothing compared to what coming down the stairs in the middle of the night half asleep can do! My precious grandchildren helped me paint the legs and belly of this big guy. Amanda even put a wheat field under the left ‘pantaloon.’ I hope you can put yourself on one of the swings with just a gentle breeze blowing and not have a care in the world for a few minutes and enjoy a wonderful summer day. We are so blessed to live in this beautiful state and I have enjoyed painting North Dakota scenes on “Jim Bob.” Hidden throughout is the 23rd Psalm to show my thankfulness.
