Mica is one of the longest minerals in continuous human use. The early Hopewell people in the US formed spiritual symbols such as handprints out of mica 10,000 years ago. Mica dates to the paleolithic era and is formed under such extreme pressure that the plates which comprise mica are forced straight up in vertical veins. Today, mica is used in a number of industries including in the manufacture of certain types of computer chips.
