••••• Rhonda is a pilot, so it’s no surprise to that her bison also became one. However, Rhonda tells us Ms. B is very much a diva.••••• My name is Rhonda Ness; I spent the first seven years living in Sioux Falls, SD. I moved to Fargo and have lived here ever since. When I was in Sioux Falls, I started drawing anything and everything, but, found my greatest pleasure drawing horses (much to my teacher's dismay) and other animals. I still love to draw; that is a very peaceful place for me. I do portraits of animals or people using graphite and colored pencil.I have also used oils to paint landscapes, etc. and, for the last two years have concentrated on watercolors mainly florals. I became a certified watercolor teacher through Terry Madden, but, haven't had the time to teach, except for a class I did last year in FL. I do Calligraphy and will try anything connected with art; I love a challenge; like the bison! I knew from the moment I saw Hans Gilsdorf on Prairie Public painting on his buffalo that I HAD to do one; I had no idea of how to get one, but, I did know I was going to do everything in my power to do it. I also knew from that moment that "she" would be a female pilot; no other idea was ever in my brain. The main problem was, I went from the idea directly to how she would look when done not how I was going to get there. My original idea changed as I was creating her and I feel like she just created herself. I know that sounds a bit strange, but, that's how it was! I did become very attached to her. I have always been a strong advocate for the arts because art can wear so many faces and doesn't only have to be in painting, drawings, etc., but, it is also in how a person lives their life and interacts with people and gives back; it's not only about making money (although, that's nice!). This project is very powerful because it has and will touch every age and it will put this area on the map and for better reasons then bad winters and the movie Fargo. We'll now be known as the home of the bison (NDSU should love that!). When I've talked to people about what I was doing some really didn't understand what the project was about, but, were very interested in hearing about it and the artists have done a lot of educating the public just in talking about their bison. Thank you Lake Agassiz for giving me the opportunity to be part of this project; it has truly been a gift.
