••••• Linda and her Art History Class students painted this bison. Linda's side of the buffalo features a herd of buffalo running, while her students' side features a winter hunt map. The images seen on this side represent different tribes and their locations.••••• "Art" was created by L. Whitney and Art 412 - Tribal Art History students at Valley City State University. Each student researched two groups of people of the great plains who followed / hunted the buffalo. They adapted historic images of the buffalo from those people and we placed those images on a winter count map of the great plains on Arts left side. The project was not only about research but was also gave the participants knowledge of and experience with the treatment of sacred images of a culture not one's own. The other side was painted by Whitney and depicts seven Blue Thunder Buffalo running on the prairie of what became the state. All proceeds of the project go to Art Student Scholarships. |
